JACKSON, Miss. – On Thursday, the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) softball tournament kicks off at Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The No. 6 seeded Majors take on third seeded Rhodes on Thursday at 11 AM CT in the tournament's first round.
The Majors wrapped up their 2019 regular season with a doubleheader split with MUW after their Friday DH against Hinds CC was rained out.
The Majors dropped two of the three games they played against the Lynx this season, picking up mercy-rule 8-0 win before falling 2-0 and 11-8 in a game Millsaps led 6-0 after the third inning.
Offensively, the Majors are hitting .281 as a team with six players that see quite a bit of playing team hitting over .300.
Kendall Carder ended the season on the three-game hit streak, going 8-12 during the streak. She also leads the team in stolen bases with 15, which is fifth in the SAA. Freshman
Karlie Galloway leads the way with 13 extra base hits and sits second with 19 RBI. Fellow freshman
Ty Bergeron has provided some power for the Majors, hitting two homeruns while leading the team with 24 RBI.
Millsaps has struggled on the mound with an ERA of 5.78 for the season. The 1-2-3 combo of
Shauna Blady,
Karley Williams and
Amber Funderburk have provided the bulk of the innings this season and will be relied on heavily in the tournament. Funderburk is tops on the team with four wins while Williams leads the way with 42 strikeouts. Blady has thrown the most innings this season, logging 74.0.
