Millsaps Tennis Set for SAA Tournament Run in Murfreesboro

4/25/2019 2:19:00 PM

JACKSON, Miss. -- The 2019 regular season has come to a close for the Millsaps College tennis program. The Majors now shift their focus to postseason play and the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tournament.

This year the tournament is being held at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Check out the game notes below for all of the details on this weekend's tournament.

Regular Season Recap: Women
The women's team wrapped up the 2019 regular season with an 11-5 mark. They finished 3-2 in SAA play, and will enter this weekend's championship as the No. 4 seed.

Weather was an issue for the Majors all season long as they had to adjust their schedule numerous times, and had three of their last four matches cancelled due to rain.

Despite the changes, Millsaps enters postseason play having won three out of their last five matches, two of those coming in SAA play.

The Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Region rankings are set to be updated this evening. As it stands right now the Majors are the No. 10 team in the region. Grace Gaskins is the No. 8 singles player, and Gaskins along with Maggie Dabadie are the No. 10 doubles combination.

Regular Season Recap: Men
The men's team enters postseason play after posting a 10-4 regular season mark. They also finished 3-2 in conference play, and will enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed.

The same weather issues were a problem on the men's side this year. They had four of their scheduled matches rained out, including two SAA match ups.

They also come having won three out of their last five contests, including a 5-0 sweep of their first round opponent the last time out.

The Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Region rankings are set to be updated this evening. As it stands right now the Majors are the 13 team in the region. Davis Plummer is the No. 14 singles player, and Plummer along with Brandon Beck are the No. 9 doubles combination.

If You Can't Make It
The championship website has all of the pertinent information regarding the bracket, matchups and times.

The men's team will open play at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow against the No. 5 seed Centre College Colonels. The Majors knocked off Centre by a score of 5-0 back on April 14.

On the women's side play gets underway at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. Millsaps faces a first round matchup with No. 5 seeded Birmingham-Southern. The Panthers, who are 9-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference, did not play the Majors this year in the regular season. The match was one of the ones cancelled due to weather concerns.
