Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Wins Pair of Elimination Games

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.—After dropping their first game of the SAA Tournament, every game from here on out is do or die for the Majors.

On Friday, they definitely did. With no intention of going home early, the Majors mercy-ruled Sewanee before eliminating Hendrix in extra innings to stay alive in the tournament.

Game One

They say it's hard to beat a team three times in one season. So it must be even harder to beat a team four times. But that's exactly what Millsaps did on Friday, taking down Sewanee 8-0 in five innings in the first elimination game of the day.

The Majors got the scoring started in the second. Lindsey Osbon led off with a walk, moved to second on Matilyn Taliaferro's sac bunt and scored on Morgan McCrea's RBI single. Then, after Brooklyn Wascom reached on fielder's choice, Karlie Galloway belted her second homerun of the season to put Millsaps on top 3-0.

In the fifth, the Majors were able to walk it off after a pair of RBIs and a run from Osbon as well as RBIs from McCrea and Galloway.

Shauna Blady picked up the win, pitching a complete game gem, giving up just three hits and striking out three.

Galloway had three hits and three RBIs while McCrea had three hits and a pair of RBIs. Osbon also drove in two runs.

Game Two

Just like the reverse of game one, Hendrix was looking to knock off the Majors for the fourth time this season. And for the first six innings, it looked like that was about to happen.

The Warriors got on the board in the second, using two singles and a wild pitch to plate a run off Majors starter Amber Funderburk. They added an insurance run in the fifth off Funderburk and took a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning, which seemed to be enough as the Warriors starting pitcher had yet to give up a hit.

But in the seventh, Kendall Carder and Ty Bergeron led off with back-to-back singles, Bergeron stole second and then both scored on Osbon's two-RBI double, to tie the game at 2 and send it into extras.

In the eighth, the Majors bats exploded to the tune of five runs on six hits, including RBIs from Carder, Bergeron, Osbon and Taliaferro. Karley Williams then kept Hendrix off the board in the bottom of the eighth to pick up the win and keep Millsaps in Chattanooga for at least another day.

Carder and Osbon each had two hits while Osbon drove in four.

What's Next

The Majors will continue their path to the SAA Championship on Saturday with another elimination game against Centre. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM CT.
