Track and Field Competes Close to Home at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss.—After spending the first few meets of the season traveling all over the south, the track and field teams had a chance to compete close to home. Both the men's and women's teams headed to Mississippi College for the Twilight Invitational. 
 
Both teams had strong showings at the Invitational, bringing home wins in multiple events.  
 
Women
 
In the track events, Onyx Magno-Hester finished in 12th place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.80. Lily Pudlik also picked up a 12th place finish, crossing the finish line of the 1500-meters in 5:27.42. 
 
Shelby Wilson won the high jump with a school record height of 1.63 meters while teammate Essence Davis finished fourth with a height of 1.52 meters. Davis also picked up a fourth place in the triple jump, jumping 10.29 meters.  
 
Sydney Mann brought home a third place in the pole vault with a height of 2.59 meters.  
 
The women throwers had a very successful meet as Hana Johnson nabbed a top-10 finish in the women's shotput, coming in at 10th place with a throw of 8.63 meters. Rose Ward finished sixth in the hammer throw, tossing it 35.40 meters. Payton Passantino was tops in the javelin with a toss of 37.51 meters and teammates Sophia Brouillette and Johnson finished sixth and eighth, respectively. 
 
Men
 
Landon Wimberley was the Majors top finisher in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.15 seconds, good enough for 16th place. Wimberley also brought home an 11th place finish in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.77 seconds.
 
Much like the women's team throwers, the men's throwers saw a good deal of success at MC. Asael Hernandez-Loredo finished sixth in the shotput with a distance of 12.40 meters. He also finished second in the discus, throwing 44.22 meters and he picked up a win in the hammer throw with a distance of 47.44 meters. 
 
Michael Tadda picked up his first win of the season, taking first in the javelin with a throw of 50.24 meters.  

What's Next
 
Both teams will be back in action on next weekend as they stay in Mississippi, heading to Oxford for the Joe Walker Invite, hosted on the Ole Miss campus.
