MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- The Millsaps College baseball team opened up a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series on Saturday with a doubleheader at Berry College. The Vikings outscored the Majors 25-7 on the afternoon to pick up a pair of wins.
The sweep improves the Berry record to 22-9 overall and 10-4 in the league, while the Majors fall to 6-24 overall and 2-11 in SAA play.
Game 1
The Vikings opened up the first game with five runs on three hits in the bottom of the 1st to take an early 5-0 lead.
Despite having a pair of two-run innings, that early deficit proved to be too much for the Majors to overcome as Berry picked up an 11-5 win.
Key Contributors
Chris Hart had a RBI single in the top of the 2nd, and
Jimmy Fondren picked up a RBI on an infield single in the top of the 4th. The other Millsaps runs came via a double play, passed ball and wild pitch.
Offensively,
Jimmy Johnstone had a three-hit ball game, his second in the last three games.
On the mound
Jon Dale Dieckman pitched a scoreless ninth inning allowing just one hit and striking out a batter.
Game 2
Berry picked up right where they left off in the second game scoring the first 14 runs of the contest unanswered.
Their pitching staff was able to scatter four Millsaps hits throughout the game, but the Majors did break through in the top of the 7th for a pair of runs.
A
Brennan Ducote double,
Langston Haden single and
Mason Little walk loaded the bases with one out in the inning. One batter later Dieckman came through with a two-RBI single to get Millsaps on the scoreboard.
Key Contributors
Ducote totaled three hits in the second game to lead the offense. He also scored a run.
What's Next?
The two teams return to William R. Bowdoin Field tomorrow afternoon to wrap up the series with a single game. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. CT.
