Women's Tennis Suffers First SAA Loss of the Season at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Millsaps College women's tennis team returned to Memphis this afternoon for a rescheduled Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match against Rhodes College. Back on Saturday the match was postponed due to a power outage.

The Lynx jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play, but the Majors rallied back in singles. It came down to a tiebreaker in singles play, but unfortunately Rhodes was able to prevail to get the 5-4 win.

With the loss Millsaps falls to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in SAA play this season.

How It Happened
Rhodes came out on top on all three of the doubles matches to carry a 3-0 advantage into singles play.

It was there that Millsaps staged their comeback.

Grace Gaskins picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win over a regionally ranked opponent at number one, and Ella Shields scored a point with her 7-5, 6-0 win at number three.

Marissa Brown cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at number five and Morgan Jenkins evened things up with her victory at number six.

With the match tied at 4-4 only singles two remained. Unfortunately the Lynx pulled out a tightly contested three-set win on a tiebreak to score the 5-4 match win.

What's Next?
After playing away from Jackson for the better part of the last month, the Majors have only home matches remaining on their 2019 schedule. Millsaps will be back in action this weekend when they host both Centre and Sewanee in conference play.

The weekend gets underway on Saturday afternoon with a 2:00 p.m. match against Sewanee.
