JACKSON, Miss. -- Sunday at noon, featured the Millsaps women's soccer playing LaGrange College for their first match of the season at Harper Davis Field.
A golden goal in overtime for Millsaps was enough to edge out the Panthers to win 1-0.
How It Happened
1st Half
The Majors put together a couple of good runs early on, but LaGrange stuffed each attack out and turned them into promising counters. Millsaps was able to keep the pressure on as the Panthers found themselves in some foul trouble.
The heat, and limited substitutions became a huge factor as the opening half came to an end, as possessions continued to change between the two teams.
2nd Half
Millsaps came right out of the intersession swinging as
Alexi Martinez ripped one right at the goal. LaGrange was able to save the shot on goal and transition it down the field where
Madison Milano picked up another save, she would later finish with 4.
Eventually, a foul on Millsaps gave LaGrange the opportunity to fire a shot right off of the out-stretched hands of Milano where a lone Panther was there, only to find the top cross bar between her and the net.
Notably,
Heather Hembree was phenomenal on defense, finding herself in position to sniff out numerous long balls to close out regulation time.
OT
Almost instantly, a good touch from
Hannah Johnson in the middle of the field allowed
Mary Ranager to launch a missile right into the net to give the Majors their first win of the 2019 season.
What's Next?
Millsaps will look to maintain the momentum as they will host Centenary College on Wednesday. Kick-off from Harper Davis Field is set for 5:00 p.m.
