ATLANTA, Ga. -- On Sunday, the Millsaps College volleyball team faced the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University, looking to pick up their first conference win of the season. The Majors shut out Oglethorpe 3-0 behind the strong attack from
Erica Bennett.
How It Happened
The first set was evenly matched until solid performances from
Bre Reed and
McKenzi Petricko pushed the lead to 19-15. After an ace from
Morgan Vincent, a kill from
Regan Cooper and four OU attack errors, Millsaps walked away with the first set 25-20.
In the second set, Millsaps jumped out to an early 10-1 lead as a result of Bennett's stellar day. The senior from Louisiana continued to swing away, boosting her hitting average to .571 on 13 kills for the match.
Maddie Grace McCurdy was responsible for three kills when the Majors started the closing set, up 11-4. The Stormy Petrels were not able to recover from being down seven points, dropping the match 0-3 to Millsaps.
Additionally,
Katelyn Thomas posted 13 assists, four digs and three aces for the Majors.
Payton Passantino added 13 digs while
Mary Tebbe had 21 assists.
What's Next?
Millsaps will look to keep the momentum going as they head to Alabama to take on Birmingham-Southern College. Tuesday's match is set to start at 6:00 p.m.
