JACKSON, Miss. -- On Friday, the Millsaps College volleyball team opened up the Millsaps/Belhaven Invitational, playing their first two games of the 2019 season inside the Hangar dome. The first day for the Majors included matches against Philander Smith College and LaGrange College.
The first match against Philander Smith ended in dominant fashion as Millsaps earned 53 points in three sets. Game two would also be decided in three matches as the Majors jumped to hot start against the LaGrange Panthers.
Game 1
Morgan Vincent, playing in front of friends and classmates, posted a double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs.
Payton Passantino worked the floor with 10 digs, while
Katelyn Thomas assisted in 20 successful attacks.
Additionally,
McKenzi Petricko would help Millsaps finish the match with a .290 hitting average, adding 11 of her own.
The Majors combined for 39 kills in three sets for the 3-0 victory.

Game 2
Mary Tebbe, alongside Thomas, put together majority of the team's assists with 35. The Millsaps offense, lead by seniors Passantino, Vincent and Petricko, boasted 40 kills over the three set match, aiding to a .546 hitting average in the first set.
Unfortunately, the pace would slow down as errors would give the Panthers a chance to fight back. Nevertheless, the defense would stay strong, grinding out 53 digs to win the third and final set 25-23 to defeat LaGrange 3-0.

What's Next?
Millsaps will be back at the dome tomorrow for day two of the invitational. The Majors start the day at 10:00 a.m. against East Texas Baptist University. They will wrap up the weekend at home with a 2:00 p.m. match facing Huntingdon College.
