MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Millsaps College men's basketball team rebounded from the loss earlier this week in a big way on Friday night.
The Majors traveled to Tennessee for a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) matchup with Rhodes College.
Millsaps built a twenty-point halftime advantage, and outscored the Lynx in the second half to run away with the 89-61 win.
The victory pushes the Majors to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in SAA play. They remain locked in a four-way tie atop the league standings.
How It Happened
Kaleb Jenkins opened up the scoring with a jumper, and the two teams traded baskets for the early portion of the game.
The Majors began to take control midway through the first half however.
Justin Van Pelt made good on a put-back attempt with 9:22 left in the half to give Millsaps their first double-digit lead.
Millsaps outscored Rhodes 19-10 over those next nine minutes to take a 46-26 lead at halftime.
The lead quickly grew to to thirty points a few minutes into the second half on a
Kalvin Spikes dunk, and the Majors were never really challenged the rest of the way.
Head Coach
Jimmy Smith was able to empty his bench in the closing minutes as 17 different players saw game action in the 89-61 win.
Notables
Anthony Hughes led all scorers with 15 points, while Jenkins and Spikes added 13 and 12 points respectively.
Millsaps dominated Rhodes on the glass, out-rebounding the Lynx 54-24 and turning some of those into 15 second chance points.
What's Next?
The Majors will close out the weekend on the road with a trip to Hendrix College on Sunday. Tip off is set for 1:00 p.m.
