Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Cruises to 93-51 win over BSC on Senior Day

JACKSON, Miss. -- On Saturday afternoon, in the final regular season game of the 2019-20 season, the Millsaps College men's basketball team celebrated Senior Day in a big way .

The Majors blasted the Birmingham Southern College Panthers, shooting 57.1% from the field in a 93-51 win.

The victory pushes the Millsaps record to 16-9 overall. They finish the regular season 8-6 in SAA play. The Panthers fall to 8-17 overall and 4-10 in the league.

The Majors are locked in a three-way tie with Oglethorpe and Berry for third place in the final conference standings.

How It Happened
An all senior lineup of: Ryan McLaurin, Saxton Becker, Buck Blanz, She'Chem Grant and Zachary Tullos started off the game for the Majors.

Grant opened up the ballgame with back-to-back three pointers, and a triple from McLaurin put the Majors up 9-7 early on. Millsaps would never trail again for the remainder of the contest.

The Majors went up 22-11 on a Kalvin Spikes dunk around the 8-minute mark, and five minutes later pushed the lead out to 37-16 on a pair of free throws from Justin Van Pelt.

Millsaps led by as many as 24 in the opening half, but a BSC layup in the final seconds made it a 44-22 game at halftime.

The Majors took their play to an even higher level in the second half, as the final outcome was never in doubt.

It took less than 4 minutes for Millsaps to push their lead out to 30 points on a three-point play from Spikes.

Back-to-back baskets from Anthony Hughes made it a 70-36 game.

The teams traded baskets for a couple of possessions before five straight points from Blanz put the Majors ahead 79-44 with 7:21 left to play.

Millsaps was able to empty their bench with a solid portion of the second-half left to play as 14 different players found their way into the scoring column.

Inside the final minute, the five seniors re-entered the game to polish off the 93-51 win in their final appearance inside the Hangar Dome.

Notables
Spikes finished with a game-high 15 points on 6-7 shooting from the field. McLaurin and Kaleb Jenkins each added 11 points.

The Majors dominated seemingly every statistical category, scoring 19 points off of 17 BSC turnovers and outscoring the Panthers 42-26 inside the paint.

Millsaps got 65 of their 93 points from the bench, and pushed the tempo all afternoon leading to 22 fast-break points.

What's Next?
The Majors now await their final seeding for the SAA Tournament. Tournament play gets underway next weekend with the quarterfinal round. The highest four seeds will host the lowest four seeds at on-campus sites across the SAA.
