JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College baseball team opened up their own invitational tournament on Friday night. The Majors took on the Red Devils of Eureka College.
The Red Devils used a big 8th inning to pull away from the Majors by a final score of 12-1.
The loss drops Millsaps to 2-4 overall on the season.
How It Happened
Eureka opened up the scoring in the top of the 1st with a pair of runs on two hits.
Wil Wood settled in on the mound over the next several innings, retiring nine batters in a row between the 2nd and 4th innings.
Unfortunately, the Majors' offense struggled, and the Red Devils broke through again in the 5th.
This time Eureka plated three runs to push their lead out to 5-0. Then added seven runs in the top of the 7th.
Millsaps got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 9th, but the large deficit proved too much to overcome.
Key Contributors
Jackson Hailey pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings in relief. He struck out the first batter he faced with the bases load in the 8th, and then struck out the side in the top of the 9th.
He also had a pair of base hits at the plate.
Jimmy Johnstone had the lone RBI on the night, drawing a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 9th.
