Baseball Offense Erupts for 13 Runs in Midweek Win over ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas -- The Millsaps College baseball team hit the road for a midweek contest on Tuesday afternoon. The Majors traveled to the Lone Star State for a matchup with the Tigers of East Texas Baptist University.

Millsaps jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, and actually scored the first 11 runs of the ballgame unanswered.

All told the Majors pounded out 12 hits, and took advantage of 5 defensive miscues by the Tigers to secure a 13-4 win.

The victory pushes Millsaps to 3-5 overall on the season.

How It Happened
In the third at bat of the game, Fritz Walker III set a pitch out of the ballpark for his first collegiate home run to put the Majors up 2-0. The very next at bat saw Avery Brock leave the yard for a solo home run to make it 3-0.

Wil Wood worked around a pair of walks in the bottom half of the inning, and the offense picked up right where they left off.

Jon Dale Dieckman came to the plate with two outs in the inning and two runners on base. He came through with a double to score both Dylan McFarland and Walker to give Millsaps a 5-0 lead.

Fisher Moore relieved Wood to start the bottom of the 2nd on the mound, and recorded a pair of strikeouts to help retire the side in order.

The Majors were able to break the game wide open in the top of the 3rd inning. Millsaps scored five runs on four hits and one ETBU error to pull ahead 10-0.

Jimmy Johnstone had a two-run double, Brock recorded a sacrifice fly, and the Tigers made an error on a Dieckman single that allowed two more runs to score.

After Moore posted another three-up, three-down inning in the bottom of the 3rd, McFarland gave the Majors an 11-0 lead with a RBI groundout in the top of the 4th.

ETBU was finally able to get on the board in the bottom of the 5th, but Millsaps got that run back in the 7th.

The Majors added another insurance run on a Chris Hart sacrifice fly in the 8th, and then held off a late rally by the Tigers to secure the 13-4 win.

Key Contributors
Dieckman led the way at the plate with three hits and four RBIs.

On the mound, Wood, Moore and Brady Davis combind to no-hit the Tigers through the first four innings.
