TEMPE, Ariz. -- On Wednesday, the Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation (ITA) announced their 2020 Division III Men's ITA Regional Awards. Despite the shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ITA still wanted to recognize the hard work on and off the court from deserving student-athletes.
In the Atlantic South Region, Millsaps College senior
Brandon Beck was named the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award winner.
"Brandon epitomizes a Division III student-athlete," said Head Coach
Davis Elkins. "Although just a captain for two seasons, Brandon was an influential teammate for four straight seasons, impacting his teammates on and off the court. He has spent countless hours tutoring his teammates in Spanish, Political Science, and Economics (his fields of study), helping them get to a point of success. On the court, he is the first to show up and last to leave, always looking for ways to improve his abilities as a tennis player and a leader. Although he will be irreplaceable for a leadership standpoint, he has paved the way for the younger classes to step in and model their captain-ship after him."
Beck is now one of the four finalists up for the national award, which will be announced LIVE next Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. on the ITA's
Twitter,
Facebook, and
Youtube.
