Major Spotlight: Martinez Giving Back to the Game of Soccer Through Summer Opportunity at Pine Forest Camp

5/20/2020 12:04:00 PM

JACKSON, Miss. -- Recently, rising sophomore Alexi Martinez was offered and accepted a summer position on staff at Pine Forest Camp.

The camp which is located in Greeley, Pennsylvania, just 1.5 hours from New York City and 3 hours from Philadelphia, is for both boys and girls entering grades 2-11 and was established in 1931 by Hughie and Selma Black. Five generations later, the Black Family is still running camp with the same motto, "Every Child Here is a Winner."

This summer, Martinez will have the opportunity to mentor the next generation of soccer players. "My hope is that being able to give back to the sport that I love and that has changed my life will help these younger generations I'm teaching stick with it and also learn to love it.," she said.

"I wanted to pursue this opportunity because I love to travel, and I will get to see a part of the country that I haven't, but at the same time I get to help teach kids something that I'm passionate about. I hope to gain more experience with teaching soccer to younger kids and trying to make it as fun as possible so they have good memories."
