WOMEN'S BASKETBALL REMAINS UNDEFEATED
The women's basketball team swept Berry last Saturday and Sunday to improve to 5-0 (4-0 SAA). Powered by senior Taelor Manning's tenacity on the offensive and defensive side of the floor, the Majors opened the weekend with a 46-40 victory over the Vikings.

Millsaps once again exhibited an overwhelming presence defensively by holding Berry to 23.1 percent from the field and 11.1 percent from the three-point line. Manning led the Majors with 16 points, six rebounds and three steals. Sophomore guard Briasha King also reached double figures with 14 points.

On Saturday, Millsaps used a balanced-scoring effort and clutch free throws to hold off Berry yet again, 46-41.

The Majors were highly effective from the charity stripe, shooting 25 of 33 on the day.  A deep bench also added 29 points, including a team-high 15 points by senior forward Dia Fortenberry. The three-time All-SAA First Team honoree returned from an injury to make an instant impact adding a team-high seven rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Millsaps once again showed a stifling defensive presence by holding Berry to 24.1 percent from the field.

SWIMMING AND DIVING SETS 10 PROGRAM MARKS IN BIRMINGHAM
The Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs continued to update the school's record books in a pair of meets on Friday and Saturday inside the Birmingham Crossplex.

A total of 10 records were bested over the weekend, including five by individuals and five relay marks.

On Friday, freshman Anthony Werner helped set three school bests and nearly broke another. The Picayune, Miss., native swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.07. He also teamed up with Breydon Conner, Cooper Clevenger and Casey Miller to swim the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:50.13. Conner, Clevenger and Miller were then joined by Trevor Galicki to eclipse the 400-yard freestyle relay time in 3:43.55.

In the women's competition, fellow freshman Ginny Ray Clevenger set the pace with three new marks. She improved both the 200-yard backstroke (2:19.50) and 200-yard butterfly (2:32.96). As a team, Clevenger swam with Anna Chris Nicholas, Ellie Pfaff and Madisyn Latino to surpass the 200-yard medley relay time (2:02.90).

On Saturday, two more relay times fell. Conner, Werner, Cooper Clevenger and Miller swam the 400-yard medley relay in 4:09.40, while Nicholas, Pfaff, Ginny Ray Clevenger and Madisyn Latino swam the women's event in 4:31.22. The squad crushed the previous record of 4:49.00 set in Feb. 2020. Additionally, Ginny Ray swam the 400-yard IM in record-breaking fashion (5:14.76).

MEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS PAIR OF GAMES IN HOME DEBUT
On Friday, a flurry of threes by the Berry Vikings were enough to spoil the home debut for the Millsaps men's basketball team, falling 73-40 inside the Hangar Dome.

Millsaps was unable to get into a groove offensively, scoring 17 points in the first half. Looking to turn their fortunes around, the Majors eyed a second-half comeback to turn their halftime deficit around. After trading baskets to begin the second half, Berry was able to enlarge its lead with five 3-pointers from sophomore Drew Jones (21 points).

Scoring double digits for the third time in as many games this season, Millsaps freshman Cameron Williams (13 points, seven rebounds) had another standout performance in the defeat. The Vikings (1-0, 1-0 SAA) had three players score in double figures. Vikings' big man, Austin Brooks, also had a dominant performance, finishing with 12 points, four rebounds, and five assists.

A valiant second half effort by Millsaps (1-3, 1-3 SAA) on Saturday could not overcome another hot start by Berry (2-0, 2-0 SAA) as the Vikings held off the Majors, 67-56.

Williams and senior Joshua Miller led Millsaps with 12 points each. Berry fired out of the gates with the first 15 points of the contest to lead from start to finish.
