ATLANTA – A balanced scoring effort could not overcome 17 turnovers for the Millsaps men's basketball team in the Dorough Field House on Saturday. The Majors fell to the Stormy Petrels, 80-67.
Millsaps (1-5, 1-5 SAA) had five scorers reach double figures. Freshman guard
Christian Evans led the way for the Majors with 14 points and eight rebounds. Guards
Rodreekas Bush and
Joshua Miller added 13 points each. Sophomore
Doug Williams tallied 11 points and four rebounds off the bench. Freshman
Cameron Williams, who has scored in double figures every game this season, also added 10 points to the Majors' final score.
After only being down 40-35 at halftime, the Majors cut the lead down to three points with 19:07 remaining in the game. This was the closest the Majors would get to Oglethorpe (5-1, 5-1 SAA).
The Stormy Petrels took control and grew its lead to 20 points by the 10:56 mark at 67-47, following an Oglethorpe three-point basket.
An attempted Majors' comeback was punctuated by a
Doug Watson three-pointer to cut the lead down to nine (71-62) with 4:05 remaining. An ensuing 6-0 run by Oglethorpe was enough to pull away.
