Rhodes Holds off Men’s Basketball, 63-60 on Saturday

Doug Watson and Cameron Williams Combine for 43 Points

JACKSON, Miss. – A strong first half and pair of outstanding efforts by sophomore Doug Williams and freshman Cameron Williams of the Millsaps men's basketball team was not enough to hold off Rhodes College on Saturday inside the Hangar Dome. The Majors fell to the Lynx, 63-60.

Millsaps (1-6, 1-6 SAA) was powered by Watson's career-high 25 points, five three-pointers and a perfect 8 of 8 from the free-throw line. He was joined in the double-digit scoring column by Williams (18 points, eight rebounds).

Midway through the first quarter, a 16-8 Millsaps gave the Majors an early lead at 21-13. Freshman guard Christian Evans grabbed a steal and threw down a thunderous dunk during the sequence

After leading 35-28 at halftime, the Majors were outscored 35-25. Rhodes (1-6, 1-6 SAA) made it a point of emphasis to attack the paint, winning up close by a margin of 28-14.

The Lynx did not take their first lead of the game until 8:32 in the second half when the score was 52-50. After a back-and-forth contest in the final eight minutes of the game, Rhodes took the lead for good after a made three-point basket by Koki Wiley with 1:12 left at 62-60.

Following a Rhodes free throw, Millsaps had two chances to tie the game from long range, but came up just short.

The Majors return back to action Sunday, Feb. 14, against Rhodes at 12 p.m. CST. Live stats and video links will be made available for fans at gomajors.com.
