JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps volleyball team (7-6, 2-4 SAA) outlasted the Univeristy of the South (Sewanee) Tigers (4-6, 1-5 SAA) in a five-set battle (22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 24-26, 15-13) at the Hangar Dome on Saturday.

Senior middle hitter Alyssa Jolly accumulated a career-high 22 kills and tied a personal best of 21 digs.

Sewanee came out on fire, scoring the first eight points of the match. The Majors would claw their way back into the set, coming as close as 19-17. The Tigers would use a 3-0 run to gain separation for the 25-22 win in set one.

Claiming a 7-1 advantage, the Majors would start set two with an agenda. Later in the set with the score 10-6, an ace by freshman Anna Capezzera would capitalize a 4-0 run by the Majors. A kill from Regan Cooper would help Millsaps cruise to a 25-17 victory in the second set.

In the pivotal third set, both teams would find themselves deadlocked at 19-19. A kill by Reed and ace by Mattke would give Millsaps enough breathing room to take a crucial 2-1 advantage heading into the fourth set.

Continuing the theme of a close match, both teams would trade points to a 20-20 tie. Sewanee would score three points in a row for a 23-20 lead. Down 13-6, Sewanee would use a furious 7-1 rally to bring the score to 14-13. Reed would put the finishing touches on her career day with a kill to give the Majors the win.
