ATLANTA – The inaugural Southern Athletic Association men's and women's swimming and diving preseason polls were released on Wednesday, following a league-wide vote by the conference's head coaches. Both Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs were predicted to finish in seventh place.
All seven SAA coaches on both the men's and women's side were asked to vote on the poll for their respective genders. Each coach predicted the season's eventual order of finish from first to eighth. A first-place vote garnered a team seven points, a second-place vote netted them six points, a third-place vote five and so on.
The Millsaps men's and women's both received eight votes each, respectively. On the men's side, Birmingham-Southern was awarded five first-place points to top the poll, while Berry garnered the other two first-place nominations.
For the women, Rhodes also harnessed five of a possible seven first-place votes to secure the top spot in the inaugural poll. Birmingham-Southern claimed the other two first-place votes.
Millsaps began their regular season last on Saturday, Oct. 30 where they competed in dual competition at Rhodes. Their next meet will be Saturday, Oct. 30 when the teams host Loyola New Orleans at the University Wellness Center-Lakeland in Flowood, Miss. with the meet beginning at 11 a.m.
After the home contest, the Majors will then compete in seven more meets over the next three months before the SAA Conference Championships, Feb. 16-19.
