FLORENCE, Ala. – The Millsaps cross country programs posted more dominates to close the regular season at the Firehawk Invitational hosted by UT Southern on Friday. The women's team placed third with 63 points while the men's team came in fifth place with 89 points. A total of 10 Majors tallied their personal bests with five women and five men each blazing their way to impressive times at McFarland Park.
In the women's 5-kilometer race, senior Isabel Baird's new personal record was enough to place sixth and paced the Majors with a time of 20:15.57. Junior Clare Howard also marked a top-10 finish, coming in ninth with at 20:59.86. Angelle Martin, Abby Tew and Tyler Hamby were all top-20 finishers, completing the scoring in 15th through 17th place. Martin, Hamby, Mackenzie Farris and Abby Henry all set personal records alongside Baird.
North Alabama claimed the team victory with 29 points, while the sixth-place finisher from Bryan College edged the Majors by one position for second at 63 points.
In the men's 8K, junior Landry Lemoine posted the Majors' top time with a personal record of 27:08.04 to finish in 12th place. Lemoine's running mate, sophomore Patrick Elliott finished right behind in 13th place with his own personal best of 27:11.87. Henry Arthur, Hunter Magno-Hester and Patch Heard all tallied their best times ever in the meet.
Millsaps will compete next in Sewanee, Tenn. at the SAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30.
