ATLANTA – Millsaps football junior quarterback
Kaleb Thompson continued his sensational start to the season in a 42-21 victory at Rhodes College on Saturday. His efforts were recognized by the Southern Athletic Association as Thompson was named the SAA Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
The St. Amant, La., product scored four touchdowns (three passing and one rushing) and accumulated 339 passing yards and 41 rushing yards for 380 all-purpose yards. He finished 18-for-33 passing against two interceptions and ran the ball six times.
Thompson was also clutch when it mattered most, helping the Majors convert six consecutive third downs in the third and fourth quarter to ice the victory in their SAA conference opener.
On Saturday, he also became the first Major quarterback to throw for over 300 yards in consecutive games since Garrett Pinciotti did so in 2012.
In four games, Thompson has amassed 1,091 passing yards, nine passing touchdowns, 80 rushing yards, one rushing score and four interceptions.
The Majors are currently second in the SAA in passing yards per game, while Thompson sits second statistically at 272.8 yards per contest.
Millsaps will host Berry College for Homecoming at Harper Davis Field on Saturday, Oct. 9, beginning at 2 p.m. CT. Football season tickets, which includes the remaining four home games, can be purchased
