Moïse Tezzo Named C Spire Conerly Trophy Nominee

Junior Tallied 1,067 All-Purpose Yards, Leads the SAA in Receiving Yards per Game

JACKSON, Miss. Millsaps football junior wide receiver Moïse Tezzo was named one of eight nominees for the prestigious C Spire Conerly Trophy, both C Spire and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum announced on Monday.

The C Spire Conerly Trophy is given to the most outstanding college football player from Mississippi schools that sponsor NCAA Division I, II or III football.

Tezzo, a junior wide receiver from Houston, Texas, who appeared in eight games, tallied 670 receiving yards, eight total touchdowns, averaging 18.6 yards per catch with 36 receptions.

In total, Tezzo tallied 1,067 all-purpose yards with an additional 105 rushing yards, 223 kickoff return yards as well as 69 yards via punt returns. He secured seven receiving touchdowns and one punt return score.

He leads the Southern Athletic Association in receiving yards per games (83.8 ypg), second in total receiving yards, third in receiving touchdowns, fourth in receptions and fourth in yards per reception (18.6 ypr).

This year marks the 26th presentation of the C Spire Conerly Trophy. This award has come to represent the Mississippi version of the Heisman Trophy. It is highly coveted and respected throughout the country.

The C Spire Conerly Trophy is named after the late Charlie Conerly – the only football inductee in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame who was an All-American at a Mississippi university, an NFL rookie of the year, and NFL All-Pro member and quarterbacked a team to a world championship. C Spire has sponsored the outstanding player awards program for football in Mississippi since 1998.

Since the debut of the trophy in 1996, Juan Joseph is the lone Millsaps football player to have won the award (2008). Prior Conerly Award winners include Deuce McAllister (1999), Eli Manning (2001 and 2003), Patrick Willis (2006), Dak Prescott (2014 and 2015) and numerous other exceptional gridiron athletes.
