No. 25 Women’s Basketball Uses Fourth-Quarter Rally to Take Down Dallas

Majors Win Fifth Game in a Row, 55-48 to Close Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday

JACKSON, Miss. – The No. 25 Millsaps women's basketball team saved their best for last when they bested the University of Dallas, 22-12 in the fourth quarter to earn a 55-48 victory inside the Hangar Dome on Sunday. Sophomore forward Helena Roe corralled a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with seven points in the come-from-behind effort on Day Two of the Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic.

Junior guard Briasha King scored 10 of her game-high 12 points in the final frame. Also reaching double figures was junior forward Devan Caldwell (10 pts), who added six rebounds and three assists as well.

Millsaps (5-3) won their fifth game in a row thanks in large part to their bench, outscoring the Crusaders, 31-21. The Majors also made more free throws (25-of-33) than their counterparts attempted (11-of-18).

Dallas (1-5) was held to 29.3 percent from the field and 18.8 percent from beyond the arc.

With the Majors not scoring for the first four minutes of the game, Dallas sprinted out to a 7-0 lead. Caldwell found first-year forward Whitney Novak in the paint helping the Majors to break the ice.

The Crusaders' lead grew to nine points before the Majors would pick up the pace. A three-pointer by freshman guard Emily Adams gave the Majors their first lead at 15-14 early in the second quarter.

Following a quick 10-2 burst by the Crusaders, the lead was pushed back to 24-17 entering the media timeout. Millsaps would close the half on a 7-0 flurry, including Caldwell who scored four straight points in the final minute to bring the score to a 26-24 deficit.

After neither team was able to score for the first three minutes of the third quarter, the Crusaders struck first with two made baskets to extend their lead to six. Dallas would cling to a 36-33 advantage as the teams entered the final 10 minutes of action.

Early in the final frame, the Majors found their first lead since the 8:29 mark of the second quarter thanks to a 12-0 run to take a 45-39 advantage with 4:12 on the clock.

Senior forward Andrea Rayford would then proceed to put the icing on the cake with a pair of made free throws to give Millsaps a 10-point advantage, its largest of the game, with 31 second remaining. The Crusaders would then hit a three-pointer with one second left to shave the Majors' win to 55-48.

Millsaps will next head to the Lone Star State for a rematch against this same University of Dallas team on Friday, Dec. 3. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Live video and stats links are available on the women's basketball schedule page at gomajors.com.
