JACKSON, Miss. – A slow start was too much to overcome for the Millsaps men's basketball team as the Majors fell, 71-58 to Sul Ross State inside the Hangar Dome on Sunday. Sophomore guard
Christian Evans (career-high 18 points) and junior guard
Doug Watson (16 points, six rebounds) combined for 34 points in the matinee.

Millsaps (2-8) won the turnover battle 22-11 but was outscored from the bench (31-17) and in the paint (30-24).

Sul Ross (5-7, 2-5 ASC) never trailed and scored the first eight points of the game. After a made jumper and free throw by Watson, the Lobos would continue their blazing start and take an 18-3 lead into the under 12-minute media timeout.

The Majors would break their scoring drought following the timeout with a made free throw by sophomore wing
Cameron Williams. With both teams trading baskets, a 40-foot heave by sophomore guard
Cam Rucker would go through the rim to make it a 38-20 game heading into the intermission.

After the Lobos' lead would grow to as much as 32 with 8:23 left, the Majors would try their best to claw their way back into the game. A steal by Watson and finish by Evans made it a 67-48 game entering the final media timeout of the game.

The Majors would go on a 22-0 run to cut their deficit down to as little as 10 after a driving layup by Watson with just under a minute remaining. The Lobos would ultimately fend off the Majors' comeback effort and hold on for a 71-58 victory.
