CONWAY, Ark. – It was another record-setting weekend for the Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs as four new high-water marks were set in the Bob Courtway Pool at the Hendrix Invitational. Fifth-year senior
Bryan Sullivan posted a sensational performance by ending the fall half of the schedule with three school records of his own, including the Southern Athletic Association open record in the 100-yard individual medley. He also reestablished both the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke times for Millsaps.
Sullivan swam the 100 IM in a blistering 50.48 seconds, shattering the old SAA time of 52.54 set by Birmingham-Southern's Connor McClain earlier this season. The time of 50.48 seconds is the sixth-fastest time across all levels of college swimming (NCAA Div. I, II, III, NAIA, NJCAA, etc.) in 2021.
Incredibly, Sullivan's IM is less than a second off the all-time Division III record of 49.67 set by Bouke Edskes of MIT in 2019. Penn Lee of Bowdoin College has posted the second-fastest time for DIII in the event this season at 52.08.
Additionally, Sullivan covered the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.55 seconds as well as 50 yards during the same swim in 27.95 to rewrite the Millsaps record book.
A product of Jackson Prep, Sullivan has now set SAA records in the 50 free, 100 fly, 100 back and the 100 IM. He currently holds nine Millsaps individual top marks and has teamed up on two record-setting relays.
On the women's side, the freshmen quartet of
Kat Burns,
Chloee Beebe,
Chelsea Bould and
Alexandra Raybourn staked their claim to a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The four combined for a time of 1:50.90.
The Majors will return from the Holiday Break and begin the winter portion of their schedule on Saturday, Jan. 8. Millsaps will challenge Centenary College in Shreveport, La., to a dual meet, beginning at 1 p.m.
