JACKSON, Miss. – The No. 12 Millsaps women's basketball team held off the Rhodes College to remain undefeated in the Hangar Dome, 63-54 on Saturday. Senior guard
Taelor Manning led all scorers with career-high 26 points. She also filled the stat sheet with seven rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Senior foward
Dia Fortenberry reached double figures for the Majors with 16 points.
Millsaps (8-0, 7-0 SAA) exhibited an all-around stifling defensive presence by holding Rhodes (6-3, 6-3 SAA) to 29.8 percent shooting from the field. Senior forward
Anna Thigpen dominated on the glass for the Majors, finishing with 11 rebounds.
The Majors dominated Rhodes in the paint (28-8) and were efficient at creating points off turnovers (24-15).
After following behind 11-4 to open the game, the Majors responded with a 22-14 run of their own to lead at the break. Manning finished the first half with 13 points, five rebounds and three steals.
After a back-and-forth affair, the game was tied at 52-52 with 2:56 left. A mid-range jumper from Fortenberry sparked a 5-0 run that put the Majors up for good. The Lynx added a pair free throws before Manning iced the game for the Majors with her own 5-0 run.
