SWIMMING AND DIVING READIES FOR CONFERENCE MEET
The Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs head to Birmingham, Ala. for the 2021 SAA Swimming and Diving Championships. A total of three days of competition will take place Saturday through Monday at the CrossPlex.
The Majors have set numerous records in year two of the program and are expected to break more school marks. Freshman
Breydon Conner should be a Major to watch after he became the first swimmer in school history to be named the SAA Men's or Women's Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 20.
Other Millsaps swimmers who have broken records this year include senior
Trevor Galicki, freshman
Anthony Werner as well as several team relays. On the women's side, five Majors have set new team marks, including
Ginny Ray Clevenger,
Ronny Defelicibus,
Madisyn Latino,
Anna Chris Nicholas and
Ellie Pfaff. More relay records should also be set by a talented women's squad in Birmingham as well.
PAIR OF TOP-10 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PROGRAMS SET TO SQUARE OFF
The No. 8 Millsaps women's basketball team travels to Atlanta to face No. 4 Oglethorpe on Saturday and Sunday, with first place in the SAA standings on the line. Action begins at 5 p.m. Saturday and concludes with a 12 p.m. tip on Sunday.
Millsaps (8-0, 7-0 SAA) cracked the Top 10 of the D3Hoops.com Women's Poll for the first time in program history this week at No. 8. Additionally, senior guard
Taelor Manning was named the SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week following her impressive efforts in a 63-54 win over Rhodes on Feb. 13. Manning scored a career-high 26 points in 39 minutes of action, while adding seven rebounds, five steals and four assists.
No. 4 Oglethorpe (6-0, 6-0) enters Saturday's contest on a 33-game winning streak.
BASEBALL MAKES DETOUR TO HOOVER TO FACE RHODES
Weather forced the Millsaps-Rhodes baseball series to be moved to Hoover, Ala. Sunday will feature a doubleheader at 12 and 3 p.m., while Monday will feature games at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The Majors split a two-game series on Feb. 13 against then-No. 25 Hendrix. Sophomore starting pitcher
Wil Wood secured SAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors for his play in a 2-0 opening-game win. The Memphis, Tenn., product pitched five scoreless innings, striking out six Warrior batters, while surrendering just two hits and two walks.
