JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's soccer team kicked off their spring season against Spring Hill College on Saturday at Harper Davis Field. The Majors fell to the Badgers, 2-1.
Sophomore
Alexi Martinez scored her first career goal for Millsaps.
Strong defensive play from both squads led to a 0-0 deadlock at halftime. Senior goalkeeper
Alyssa McCarron started the first half for the Majors, yielding zero goals and making two saves.
When the second half started, both offenses found a rhythm. In the 5th minute, Badgers forward Emma Robinson was able to break free from the Majors' defenders for an unassisted goal. Millsaps junior
Maddie Moore played the majority of the second half in goal.
After a back-and-forth affair, Martinez scored on a counterattack in the 58th minute thanks to an assist from junior midfielder
Hannah Johnson.
Less than a minute later, Badgers' midfielder Kylie Long was on target for an unassisted goal in the top corner from 35 yards out.
Spring Hill's aggressiveness on offense proved to be the difference as the Badgers had more shots attempted (14-1) and corner kicks (7-1).
Millsaps will next travel to MUW on Saturday, March 6, with the match beginning at 3 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on gomajors.com.
