BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A career-high point total by senior
Taelor Manning and a season-high point total by the No. 7 Millsaps women's basketball team powered the Majors past Birmingham-Southern, 110-94 on Sunday at Bill Battle Coliseum.
Millsaps (11-1, 10-1 SAA) improved its standing in the Southern Athletic Association standings with the win. No. 5 Oglethorpe (7-1, 7-1 SAA) was idle this weekend after its series with was canceled with Berry.
Manning led the Majors with a career-high 30 points on 18-of-20 shooting from the free throw line, while adding seven assists and four rebounds on Sunday. Birmingham-Southern (5-12, 3-9 SAA) showed tremendous depth with 61 bench points, but it was not enough to stop Millsaps.
The Majors lead 56-40 at the half and cruised to victory thanks to 63 percent shooting (34-for-54) from the field. Millsaps was also able to make 40 of 55 attempts from the free throw line (72.7 percent).
Sophomore guard
Briasha King netted 19 points, while senior
Dia Fortenberry chipped in 14 points.
Anna Thigpen tallied a career-high 12 points, while teammate
Andrea Rayford scored 11 and secured a career-best nine rebounds.
The next game for Millsaps will either be a rescheduled contest against Rhodes, with a date a time to be determined, or an appearance in the SAA Tournament semifinals on March 12. Host site and times for the tournament will be announced at a later date.
