CONWAY, Ark. – The Millsaps volleyball team (0-2, 0-2 SAA) was defeated in both matches of their season opener doubleheader against Hendrix (2-0, 2-0 SAA) in Grove Gymnasium on Sunday.
MATCH ONE
The Majors were defeated 3-0 in straight sets (15-25, 15-25, 20-25) to begin the day. Freshman middle hitter
Breanna Macaluso shined in her debut, tallying 36 attacks, nine kills and 10 digs.
Offensively, junior outside hitter
Alyssa Jolly accounted for 21 attacks and freshman
Gabby Deas had 8 kills in her first start.
Sophomore setter
Mary Tebbe was all around the court as she tallied 21 assists and six total attacks.
On the defensive side, sophomore defensive specialist
Hannah Mattke was a thorn in the Warriors' side with a career-high 22 digs.
MATCH TWO
The Majors were defeated in four sets (25-18, 16-25, 21-25, 19-25) after taking the first set in Match Two. Tebbe accounted for 93 percent of the Majors' assists with a career-high 39 helpers.
Deas led the way for the Majors with 49 attacks and 10 kills. Her freshman running mate Macaluso also tacked on 36 attacks with nine kills. Senior middle hitter
Emily Herring set a new career high with 27 attacks as well.
Mattke had 24 digs and
Brenna Macaluso had 16 digs in defending the back row.
