ATLANTA – The No. 7 Millsaps women's basketball team's dominance has translated into another honor as senior guard
Taelor Manning has been named the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office revealed on Monday.
Manning had a pair of stellar performances for the Majors at Birmingham-Southern over the weekend. The Majors eclipsed the 100-point mark twice in a 104-75 win on Saturday and a 110-94 victory on Sunday. In those contests, Manning averaged 26.5 points, five assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals to help Millsaps improve to 11-1 (10-1 SAA) and remain in first place in the SAA standings.
On Saturday, she tallied 23 points (13-14 FT), five rebounds, three assists and two steals. The accounting major improved on that solid outing by netting a career-high 30 points (18-20 FT) on Sunday. Manning added four rebounds, seven assists and one steal in 35 minutes of action in the second game. She was highly efficient from the floor shooting 48.1 percent combined.
This is the third time Manning has garnered SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week status. Just two weeks earlier, Manning secured the same recognition after posting 26 points in a 63-54 home win against Rhodes. She also earned the honor on Feb. 17, 2020 after dropping 24 points versus Birmingham-Southern.
It also marks the third occasion this season a women's basketball Major has been recognized leaguewide. Senior guard
Dia Fortenberry was named Player of the Week on Feb. 1 following a two-game sweep of Centre.
