Men’s Soccer’s Comeback Effort Comes Up Just Short to Rhodes

Freshman Jacks Dowdy Scores Twice in 4-2 Defeat on Sunday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Millsaps men's soccer program scored twice in the second half but could not come back from an early deficit as Rhodes was able to hang on, 4-2 on Sunday.

The Lynx outshot the Majors 15-3 in the contest, but only 8-3 for shots on goal. Freshman Wilkins Dowdy goalkeeper made three saves to keep the Majors in the match late. His brother, Jacks Dowdy, recorded all three Major shots and tallied a pair of goals.

Rhodes held a slight edge on corner kicks, 5-3. The Memphis-based school jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage with goals in the 16th, 21st and 33rd minute.

Jacks Dowdy began the Major rally in the second half. He scored his first goal with an assist by Ruben Hamman in the 61st minute. Dowdy would then add another strike in the 70th minute to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Wes Adams of Rhodes would provide a backbreaking goal in the 77th minute to close out the scoring.

Sunday's match was first regular season conference match for the Majors since October 2019.

Millsaps will travel to face Hendrix next Saturday, March 20, beginning at 3 p.m.
