JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's and women's tennis programs dominated Hendrix to open the spring season at the Coach Montgomery Courts on Saturday and Sunday, finishing with a 35-1 combined match record.
The men swept both days, 9-0 and the women swept Saturday and posted an 8-1 mark on Sunday. Saturday's matches counted as conference contests while Sunday's were marked as non-conference affairs. Both squads will next host Centre, March 13-14.
Saturday Men's Recap: 9-0
Millsaps opened the day in doubles with three victories. On Court 1, Millsaps'
Trevor Vaccaro teamed up with
Hamilton Jackson to edge out Eric Meyne and Will Thames, 8-7 in an exciting 7-5 tiebreaker. Court 3 also came down to a nail-biting break with the team of
Alex Gardiner and
Kells Hecht winning 7-4.
John Kimball and
Benjamin Falk scored a quick point for the Majors with an 8-1 decision on Court 2.
It was a clean across Courts 1 through 6 in singles. Kimball won on Court 1, 6-2, 6-2, while Jackson (6-2, 6-1) and Falk (6-1, 6-2) only dropped three games each. Hecht (6-2, 6-0), Vaccaro (6-3, 6-0) and
Henry Atkins (6-2, 6-0) all posted clean sheets in the second set.
Sunday Men's Recap: 9-0
On Sunday, the Majors returned with yet another dominate, 9-0 performance. Major teammates Kimball and
Jakub Bobinski looked impressive downing Meyne and Thames on Court 1, 8-3. Gardiner and Millsaps junior
Carson Doles won by the same 8-3 decision on Court 3. Rounding the doubles sweep on Court 2 were Atkins and Hecht, posting an 8-2 win.
In singles action, Vaccaro was moved up to Court 1 and battled Meyne in a terrific back-and-forth match. Vaccaro claimed set one, 6-3, then fell 7-5 before responding with an emphatic 10-4, set three tiebreak.
On Court 4, another exciting tiebreak played out with Gardiner prevailing over Thames. Gardiner took the first set, 6-2, dropped the next 6-1, but pulled out an electric 11-9 win in the third.
Hecht (6-1, 6-1), Jackson (6-0, 6-2), Atkins (6-1, 6-1) and Bobinski (6-4, 6-3) all were victorious in two sets to end the weekend.

Saturday Women's Recap: 9-0
It was a similar situation for the Millsaps women's tennis squad on Saturday as sweeps continued to be the theme. Both teams of
Maggie Dabadie and
Morris Kelly Clayton as well as Ella Shileds and
Marissa Brown prevailed, 8-0 in doubles. On Court 1,
Grace Gaskins and
Camille Fremaux were 8-2 winners.
The Majors continued their excellent play by not dropping a single set in singles. Fremaux, Shields, Brown and Sandoz all won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Gaskins took down Hendrix's number one Eleanor Burks, 6-4, 6-3 while Dabadie dropped just one game on Court 2 (6-0, 6-1).
Sunday Women's Recap: 8-1
Millsaps posted another strong decision on Sunday with an 8-1 team win over the Warriors. The Majors swept through doubles with a pair of 8-1 scores and an 8-3 match. The duos of
Morgan Jenkins and
Jillian Sandoz as well as
Madison Williams and
Camille Landry surrendered just one game.
Sarah Hayek and
Amelia Christy won 8-3.
In singles, Williams Hayek and
Isabella Hutchins all provided impressive 6-0, 6-0 winners. On Court 2, Jenkins battled Greer Ayers of Hendrix tough, prevailing 6-4, 6-3. Christy took out Hendrix's Grace House, 6-2, 6-1 on Court 4. Clayton fought hard on Court 1, but came up just short, 6-1, 6-3.
