Majors Sweep Hendrix in Home Finale

Majors Upend Warriors, 5-1 and 10-5 on Senior Day

JACKSON, Miss – The Millsaps baseball team (9-21, 7-13 SAA) swept Hendrix College (9-20, 6-14 SAA) in its Senior Day doubleheader at Twenty Field on Sunday afternoon by a scores of 5-1 and 10-5.

Game One (7 innings): 5-1

Sam Pitre was outstanding in Game One with two hits and two RBIs and a stolen base.

Fritz Walker III and Chris Hart both had an excellent games at the plate with two hits each.

Mason Little and Mark Petkovsek Jr. both flexed their speed on the basepaths with two stolen bases.

Starting pitcher Taylor Sullivan was stellar only giving up two hits and one run in five innings pitched.

Hendrix got on the board in top of the first with one unearned run off an R.J. Carver double.

The Majors responded in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice bunt from Will Neely that scored Walker. The Majors then took the lead in the same inning when a throwing error by the Warriors which allowed Keaton Page to zoom across home plate.

After neither team scored in the third or fourth inning, the Majors gained further separation in the bottom of the fifth with a Hart RBI single for a 3-1 advantage.

The Majors added the final two runs in the sixth inning when Pitre knocked in David Abbadessa and Petkovsek on a two-out, two-RBI single to right field for a 5-1 lead.

Relief pitcher Ryan Erwin would continue the dominance on the mound for the Majors with two strikeouts and only one hit given up in the final two innings.

Timely hits and great pitching would help the Majors cruise to a 5-1 victory in Game One.

Game Two: 10-5

Carrying a perfect game bid going into the fifth inning, sophomore Braden Robinson yielded only three hits and no runs in 5.2 innings pitched. He also had two strikeouts in Game Two.

Avery Brock and Pitre both shined with three RBIs and two hits each.

The bats of Little and Hart were active as well as both players totaled two hits as well.

The Majors got off to a blazing start in the bottom of first inning knocking in seven runs. Pitre, Little, Hart and Brock were all walked with the base loaded for the first four runs of the game.

After running through the lineup, Pitre found himself at the plate again batting in a two-RBI single that plated Keaton Page and Walker. Little ended the scoring for the Majors on an RBI, fielder's choice that sent Alan Merkle home.

In the bottom of the second inning, Brock tallied another RBI with a single to the right side for a score of 8-0.

Continuing the theme of Brock's RBIs, he batted in Mason Little to push the lead to 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Finding life in the top of the seventh, the Warriors were able to cut the lead down to 9-4 thanks to an RBI single and a three-run homer.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, a fielder's choice RBI from Pitre gave Neely enough space to race across home plate for the final score of the game at 10-5.

In their final weekend of the season, the Majors next travel to face the Rhodes College for another four-game series, April 16-17. Both days will feature doubleheaders beginning at 12 p.m. Live video and stats will be provided at gomajors.com.
