ATLANTA – Needing two wins on Senior Day to keep Millsaps baseball's SAA playoff hopes alive, sophomore left fielder
Sam Pitre delivered with a performance that merited SAA Baseball Player of the Week recognition, the league announced on Tuesday.
Pitre finished the four-game, weekend series against Hendrix 5-for-10 at the plate, with five RBIs, three runs scored and three walks created.
He started the series on Saturday with a combined two walks, one hit and one run scored in two defeats.
Pitre and the Majors responded in a big way on Sunday, which doubled as Senior Day. In Game One, the Chemistry major found the winning formula by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored in a 5-1 triumph.
He then exploded for a 2-for-4 afternoon in Game Two with three RBIs, a run scored and a walk in a 10-5 victory.
Pitre joins teammate
Wil Wood as Majors who have been honored by the SAA this season. Wood was named SAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 15 after shutting down the same Hendrix squad.
