Majors Hang Tough at No. 14 Berry on Saturday

Millsaps Bested 3-2 and 5-1 in Doubleheader

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Millsaps softball team (11-10, 8-4 SAA) was defeated in both games of a doubleheader against No. 14 Berry College (16-5, 6-3 SAA) at Kay Williams Field on Saturday.

GAME ONE: 2-3 (8 innings)
Brooklyn Wascom posted three hits, two RBIs and stole two bases in Game One to lead the Majors offensively.

Mattie Taliaferro, Kat Reeves, and Leslie Norris all added two hits.

Senior Hayleigh Rogers pitched a complete game for Millsaps, striking out two batters against eight hits.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, Berry scored the first run of the game off a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead.

After scoreless innings in the second and third, the Majors evened up the game at 1-1 with an RBI single to centerfield from Wascom that scored Taliaferro.

The same sequence repeated in the top of the sixth inning for the Majors as another RBI single from Wascom raced Taliaferro across home plate again for a 2-1 lead.

Reaching first base on an error, the Vikings capitalized by scoring on an unearned sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
After both teams went scoreless in the seventh inning, late-game heroics came in the form of an RBI double from Berry in the eighth for a 3-2 victory.

GAME TWO: 1-5
Reeves scored the lone run, had one hit and stole a base for the Majors in Game Two.

Molli Perry, Lindsey Osbon, and Wascom all had one hit.

Hannah Derouen and Karley Williams combined for five strikeouts in the circle.

In the first inning, Reeves scored on a catching error from the Berry first baseman with two outs.

The Vikings would add three runs in the third and a run in both the fourth and fifth innings.

The Majors will travel to Birmingham Southern for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18. First pitch for the Saturday doubleheader will be at 12 p.m. CT. Game Three will begin at 12 p.m. on Sunday. Live stats and video links will be available for all games at gomajors.com.
