MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Millsaps sophomore left fielder Sam Pitre added to his already impressive list of honors on Tuesday as he was named to the All-South Region Third Team by D3baseball.com.

The Opelousas, La., product also secured a spot on the Southern Athletic Association First Team in April following a banner 2021 season.

In 34 starts, he averaged 0.391 at the plate (fifth best in the SAA), slugged 0.582 (fourth), posted a 0.489 on-base percentage (sixth), and tallied the eighth-most hits (43) and walks (18).

His four triples were also tied for a league best, while his nine steals led the team. Pitre was recognized as the SAA Baseball Player of the Week on April 13 following his efforts during the Senior Day sweep of Hendrix.

The 2021 season marks the ninth year that D3baseball.com has named All-Region teams, with 940 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to D3baseball.com staff and contributors from which three team in each region were determined.

For each of the eight regions, there is a regional player of the year (a batter), a pitcher of the year, a rookie of the year (must be a freshman) and a coach of the year. Sports Information Directors at the various institutions nominated players.
