AUSTIN, Texas – Millsaps football graduate defensive lineman
Liam Vincifora made program history by becoming the first to be named by the College Sports Information Directors of America to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Football Team, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Vincifora secured a place on the Second Team and became the sixth-ever Major across all sports to earn the prestigious recognition.
The Covington, La., native was selected as one of 51 student-athletes to either the First or Second Team and one of nine total defensive linemen.
Steven Sellers of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor was tabbed the CoSIDA Academic All-America® of the Year.
Vincifora joins five other Millsaps Majors to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American®. They include a trio of baseball standouts John Roberts (1988), Chris McNeal (1997), John Pacillo (2007), softball infielder Jennifer McKinley (2010) and men's soccer forward Lukas Elmhammer (2014).
Teammate and fellow 2021 graduate
Christian Roberts joined Vincifora in being named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Football Team in early June.
The 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District® and All-America® Football Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. The CoSIDA Academic All-District teams include student-athletes divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Vincifora finished his decorated Major career as a First Team All-SAA selection in 2018 and 2019 and Second Team honoree as a senior.
In 2019, he was also named the SAA Defensive Player of the Year, was a D3Football.com Third Team All-American and both a Cliff Harris Award and C Spire Conerly Trophy nominee. A complete list of Vincifora's Millsaps football awards can be found below.
In 2021, Vincifora was tied for third in the SAA with 34 total tackles, including tied for second with three sacks in four games. He added 19 solo stops, 5.0 TFLs and four quarterback hurries as a senior.
His career totals were equally impressive. He played in all 34 games for the Majors over four seasons, with 21 starts. Vincifora totaled 89 solo tackles, 64 assisted tackles and incredibly 24.5 sacks. He was a dual threat with 42 TFLs and six career pass breakups.
He received his degree in Business with a concentration in Finance, while maintaining a 3.42 cumulative GPA. Vincifora was also active with Kappa Sigma and a three-time member of the SAA Academic Honor Roll.
The Division III Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
