JACKSON, Miss. – Spearheaded by second-year head coach
Courtney Murdoch, the Millsaps women's soccer team looks to ignite their campaign at the friendly confines of Harper Davis Field against Holmes Community College on August 20. After playing a condensed eight-match schedule in the spring, the Majors are slated for their first full schedule since fall 2019 with 18 total contests prior to the Southern Athletic Association Tournament.
With 14 returners, including seven seniors, Millsaps will look to use their depth as an advantage. A total of 10 newcomers will look to make an impact as well.
Powering the charge for the Majors will be returning leading goalscorer
Mary Ranager and the top returning defender
Mattie Marks, both All-SAA selections in the spring. Ranager and Marks tallied over 1,350 combined minutes and will look to utilize their skills to their full potential for their senior campaigns.
Buoying the Majors between the goalposts will be seniors
Madison Milano and
Maddie Moore. With over 40 saves and four starts combined in the spring, they will look to hold down the opposition.
Additionally, look for returning upperclassmen defenders
Josie McReynolds and
Onyx Magno to keep points at a premium against challenging foes. Their communication with their teammates will make them one of the more formidable duos in the SAA.
Sophomore
Alexi Martinez is another returning offensive dynamo for the Majors as she scored in her very first collegiate match on Feb. 27. Her midfield partner
Hannah Johnson played the most minutes among returning players with 731.
Millsaps looks to ignite their campaign with a scrimmage against Holmes Community College on Aug. 20. Conference play will then begin for Millsaps at home against Rhodes College on Sept. 24. Senior Day for The Majors will host Senior Day when they face Birmingham-Southern College in the regular season finale on Oct. 23. The SAA Tournament will begin with quarterfinals on Oct. 30 and culminate with the championship match on Nov. 7.
