JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps head volleyball coach
Jaime Fisher is excited to rely her promising roster even more as she enters her 14th season at the helm. The Majors have seven returners who competed in all 12 matches from last season, three of which garnered All-SAA Honorable Mention honors. Experience will be back at every position on the court.
The first All-SAA honoree is senior middle blocker
Alyssa Jolly. In the spring, she was second on the team in both kills (106) and hitting percentage (.219 percent). Additionally, she was second in points with 126.5 and third with 25 blocks. Jolly was also named SAA Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week on April 7 for dominant performances at Oglethorpe.
The next All-SAA student-athlete is sophomore outside hitter
Brenna Macaluso. As a freshman, Macaluso led the Majors with 112 kills and points with 131.5. To top it off, she was tied for first with 12 aces and second with 140 digs.
The third and final returner to receive All-SAA Honorable Mention for the Majors a season ago is junior setter
Mary Tebbe. Her exceptional 8.4 assists per set were third best in the SAA. Tebbe totaled 382 helpers and added 114 digs, third most on the team.
Not to go unnoticed, junior defensive specialist
Hannah Mattke will have high expectations to maintain her strong production. Last season she was fifth in the SAA with 210 digs. Sophomore and fellow defensive specialist
Alexia Ardoin will also be depended on to produce defensively due to her experience from a season ago. She posted 86 digs with a reception rate of .914 percent.
Offensively, sophomore outside hitter
Gabby Deas and junior right-side hitter
Bre Reed will be players to look for as they combined for 51 digs and 39 blocks defensively in the condensed spring season. Deas was also third on the team with 96 kills, while Reed added 53.
The season begins inside the Hangar Dome on Wednesday, Sept. 1 against Northwest Mississippi Community College. Conference play will start at Berry College on Sept. 18.
Millsaps will finish the regular season at home for Senior Day against MUW on Oct. 30. The SAA Tournament will be hosted by the No. 1 overall seed, Nov. 5-7.
