JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps volleyball team was victorious in their season opener, 19-25, 25-14, 25-18, 22-25, 15-12, hosting Northwest Mississippi Community College inside the Hangar Dome on Wednesday. A quartet of Majors reached double-digits in kills to power Millsaps to victory.
NWCC (0-4) claimed the first set 25-19. Millsaps (0-0, 0-0 SAA) stormed back with a vengeance by winning the second and third sets convincingly, 25-14 and 25-18. In the fourth set, the Rangers fended off defeat by winning, 25-22. In the fifth and decisive set, the Majors won the back-and-forth affair to win their season debut, 15-12.
Offensively, Millsaps was led by senior middle hitter
Alyssa Jolly who had 15 kills and two blocks.
Freshman
Anna Capezzera dazzled in her debut as she posted a stat line of 11 kills with five aces. Sophomore
Margaret Richardson was also everywhere on the court with 11 digs.
Getting her campaign off to a promising start, sophomore
Brenna Macaluso tallied 10 kills, 12 digs, three aces and one block.
Bre Reed, a junior from Baton Rouge, added 11 kills and three blocks.

Mary Tebbe did a spectacular job getting the ball to her hitters' sweet spots, boasting 40 assists and 11 digs.
Looking to build off the momentum, Millsaps will host the Millsaps/Belhaven Invitational this weekend. They will face No. 15 Mary Hardin-Baylor and Centenary College on Friday, Sept. 3 at 3 and 5 p.m. CT, respectively. On Saturday, they will face off in another doubleheader against LeTourneau at 10 a.m. and conclude with rival Belhaven at 4 p.m.
