Majors Use Second-Half Comeback to Draw LeTourneau, 2-2

Freshman Camille Blanchard Nets Two Goals on Sunday

LONGVIEW, Texas – Millsaps women's soccer (0-3-1) showed grit in a second half comeback that resulted in a draw with LeTourneau University (1-2-1). Freshman defender Camille Blanchard netted two goals, resulting a 2-2 at the Joyce Family Athletic Complex on Sunday.

With two shots on target by Kayla Faraca and Ranee' LeVasseur in the first nine minutes of the match, the Majors came out aggressively on offense.
The Yellowjackets were able to strike first in the 27th minute, however, with a penalty kick that struck the bottom right side of the net.

Looking to knot the game up before halftime, a strike from senior forward Hannah Johnson was saved. LeTourneau led a counter attack that ended with a goal in the 37th minute and a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

The Majors forced heavy pressure looking to cut back into the match, resulting in a penalty in the Yellowjackets' box. Blanchard would then power the penalty kick into the back of the goal for the Majors' first score of the young season.

With time running out, Blanchard found herself streaking down the left side of the field on a counter attack where in the 89th minute she looped in a goal from just outside the penalty box into the bottom right corner with her left boot to tie the game at 2-2.

In overtime with the golden goal in effect, the game seemed to be all but over when only the goalkeeper was between LeVasseur and the net in the 97th minute. The shot by LeVasseur was saved by the goalie's fingertips and bounced out of bounds for a corner kick.

LETU had one final chance to score a goal in the last minute of the match when goalkeeper Madison Milano punched the ball up and over the goal.

In a matchup that was even on the stat sheet, both teams totaled 10 shots on goal and eight saves each.

Millsaps will be back at home hosting LSU-Shreveport at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17. Live video and live stats links are available at gomajors.com.
