JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps men's soccer team (1-5-1, 0-1 SAA) was defeated by Rhodes College (5-3, 1-0 SAA) by a score of 2-0 at Harper Davis Field on Friday. Sophomore goalkeeper Wilkins Dowdy posted a career-high 12 saves.

The Lynx outshot the Majors 15-3 in the first half and 12-3 in the second. The extended pressure resulted in the Lynx netting a goal in the sixth minute of play.

The Majors remained stout for the rest of the half, highlighted by a few terrific plays by their defenders. One such play came when Dowdy made a full body save, where he was able to deflect the ball with his left foot.

Just seconds after the Lynx opening goal, the Majors nearly tied the game up when a cross from sophomore Jacks Dowdy nearly connected to senior Sergey Kolesnik.

In the 33rd minute, freshman Parker Ricks made a goal-saving tackle when a Lynx forward had already passed Wilkins Dowdy to keep the score at 1-0 heading into halftime.

Continuing his hard-fought game, Dowdy made another great save when the Rhodes forward attempted to curl in a free kick from 25 yards out in the 61st minute.

Dowdy kept the game within one score once again in the 74th minute when he punched out a powerful shot labeled for the bottom-right corner.

Rhodes was able to put the game out of reach with a late strike in the 88th minute. This would prove to be enough for them to hold on for a 2-0 victory.

The Majors will complete their five-game home stand against Copiah-Lincoln Community College at Harper Davis Field this Tuesday, Sept. 28. Opening kick is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with live stats and video available at gomajors.com.
