Men’s Basketball Unable to Keep Pace at Oglethorpe on Friday

Cameron Williams and Doug Watson Reach Double Figures in 75-56 Road Contest

ATLANTA – Millsaps men's basketball's Cameron Williams (11 points, nine rebounds) and Doug Watson (10 points) both reached double figures in scoring in a 75-56 loss to Oglethorpe University. Sophomore center Aaron Ursin had a career-high nine rebounds inside the Dorough Field House on Friday.

Millsaps (2-15, 0-7 SAA) garnered a major contribution from their reserves as they outscored their opponents 27-13 in bench points. They also outrebounded the Stormy Petrels 51-41.

Oglethorpe (13-5, 7-1 SAA) saw a major advantage at the charity stripe as they hit 20 more free throws than their counterparts, going 28-for-37 compared to 8-for-17 for the Majors.

Up 5-4 midway through the first quarter, Oglethorpe found a rhythm offensively and went on a 22-7 run for a 27-11 lead. Remaining in striking distance, first-year guard Bryce Brown knocked down a pull-up jumper with under a minute remaining to cut the deficit to 30-19 heading into the intermission.

On the opening possession of the second half, Brown chased down his own missed shot to put back a layup and cut the Stormy Petrel's lead to single digits at 30-21. Later in the half with Millsaps down 39-32 at the 13:04 mark, momentum seemed to shift towards the home squad as the Majors were called for two technical fouls and Oglethorpe scored five points in one possession.

The Stormy Petrels pushed their lead to as large as 51-32 with 11:34 left in the game. Millsaps would then respond with a 12-2 burst to cut the deficit to nine with just under six minutes left. The Majors would cut Oglethorpe's lead to nine points numerous times but that would be as close Millsaps came as the Stormy Petrels held on for a 75-56 win.

The Majors will remain in the Peach State as they face Berry on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT Live video and stats links are available on the women's basketball schedule page at gomajors.com.
