JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's soccer team faced its first SAA opponent at home, but fell to Hendrix 1-0 following a late goal at Harper Davis Field on Saturday.
Freshman goalkeeper
Emily Lozano had another stellar match with five saves, while fifth year
Mary Ranager tallied two shots on net. Freshman
Allyssa Hearn and sophomore
Nicole Balduccini also recorded shots for the Majors.
Hendrix (8-2, 2-0 SAA) posted a 16-5 shot attempt lead, but Millsaps (2-5-1, 0-2 SAA) was only outshot by a narrow 6-4 margin for shots on goal. The Warriors finished with a 5-2 edge in corner kicks, the Majors were more disciplined in tackles (2-6 on fouls).
The Warriors controlled action for the first 30 minutes, but Millsaps held tough and recorded their first on-target shot in the 32nd minute.
However, the second half featured far more chances both ways. Hendrix finally broke through on the scoreboard in the 82nd minute on a pass across the net that was flicked home.
Junior
Kayla Faraca had the Majors' final chance with two minutes remaining, but the shot missed over the top of the net.
Millsaps will next host its Senior Night with Oglethorpe on Friday. Festivities and announcements will begin 10 minutes prior to the 8 p.m. kickoff. Live stats and video will be available at gomajors.com.
