JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's soccer team continued its 2022 defensive dominance in a 0-0 draw, hosting Oglethorpe at Harper Davis Field for Senior Night on Friday.
Millsaps tallied their fourth shutout of the season, including the third for rising freshman goalkeeper
Emily Lozano. The Majors tied the four shutouts set back in 2012 and it is the most clean sheets since the program accumulated six in 2009.
Oglethorpe (3-5-2, 0-2-1 SAA) posted a 12-3 shot attempt edge, but the Majors actually notched a 2-1 advantage on shots on goal.
Millsaps (2-5-2, 0-2-1 SAA) had one more corner kick (4-3) and one more foul (11-10) in a tightly contested contest.
Freshman
Allyssa Hearn fired a hard curling shot in the fourth minute, but the Stormy Petrel keeper was able to corral the speeding ball.
The Majors made strong halftime adjustments which resulted in more position time and close to 10 consecutive throw-ins deep in the Oglethorpe territory. A corner kick followed by an
Alexa Dubrow shot resulted in the pressure.
The Stormy Petrels responded with a great deal of shot attempts in the second half, but only forced Lozano to make one save. Sophomore
Ranee' LeVesseur recorded Millsaps' final shot try in the 71st minute, but the shot went just wide.
Both teams battled with even possession for the remainder of the match and both defenses held firm in the 0-0 decision.
Millsaps now closes out its SAA regular-season home schedule by hosting Berry, beginning at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Live stats and video will be available at gomajors.com.
