BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Millsaps men's soccer team was bested 4-0 by Birmingham-Southern in its regular-season finale at Goldfarb Field at Berylson Soccer Park on Saturday.
Rising freshman goalkeeper
Michael Hamauei tallied seven saves and junior
Jacks Dowdy posted three shot attempts with two on goal. Freshman
Lane Kirk also added a shot on target.
Birmingham-Southern posted a 22-7 shot advantage and an 11-3 edge for shots on goal. However, both teams produced six corner kicks.
The Panthers scored on their first shot of the match in the seventh minute. Sophomore
Michael Tymkiw was undeterred as he launched a shot towards BSC goal seconds later following the kickoff.
BSC would answer with a shot before a Dowdy chance would be stopped in the 17th minute. Dowdy would again be stopped on another opportunity in the 34th minute looking for the equalizer.
The Panthers would close the half with five shots and score again in the 37th minute. Junior
Sebastiani Maraldo provided a shot that went just wide in the 49th minute.
BSC continued their pressure for the remainder of the contest and added goals in the 67th and 85th minutes for the final 4-0 tally.
Millsaps now awaits the start of the SAA Tournament Quarterfinals. The Majors will travel to face Rhodes College on Friday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com
