JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's soccer team put up a fight, but fell to conference-leading Berry, 5-1 at Harper Davis Field on Sunday.
The Majors recorded three on-target shots and rising freshman goalkeeper
Emily Lozano made seven saves. Both teams recorded eight fouls and the Vikings tallied a 5-1 edge on corner kicks.
Berry (8-3-0, 4-0-0 SAA) claimed an early 3-0 lead 22 minutes into the match.
Millsaps (2-6-2, 0-3-1 SAA) was able to answer only seven minutes into the second half off a set piece. Senior
Riley Ely crossed the ball into the box off a corner kick, which found a scrum of players out front. Fifth year
Mary Ranager was able to nudge the loose ball home and into the near post.
The Majors continued to pressure with freshman
Alexa Dubrow and Ely recording shot attempts looking to cut further into the deficit.
Berry would score twice late in the 86th minute to put the match away after a hard-fought effort.
Millsaps now will begin a four-match road trip, starting at Centre College at 5 p.m. on Friday. Live stats and video will be available at gomajors.com.
