DANVILLE, Ky. – The Millsaps football team was bested in its regular-season finale by Centre at Farris Stadium in the Bluegrass State on Saturday.
The Majors were unable to overcome four fumbles and an interception on a cold afternoon, falling 57-3.
Sophomore quarterback
Brody Davis threw for 105 yards, while classmate wideout
Xavion Butler hauled in a team-high 32 yards on three receptions.
Freshman linebacker
Nehemiah Coalson tallied six tackles, 2.0 TFLs, a sack and a forced fumble. Sophomore linebacker
Thomas Patterson totaled seven tackles and added a quarterback hurry on the defensive side.
Davis used his legs to pick up 15 yards on the opening offensive play of the game. However, an interception proved costly, leading to a Centre touchdown two plays later.
A trio of fumbles and a safety would create a 26-0 Colonel advantage after the first quarter.
Both teams would trade field goals in the second quarter, including an
Ethan Klapatch 34-yard conversion. He has twice been named the SAA Special Teams Player of the Week this season.
Centre would respond with 79-yard kick return score as well as recover a sack fumble, which would eventually result in an additional touchdown tally. The Colonels would lead 43-3 at halftime.
Centre scored again to open the second half before Millsaps would march 54 yards down to the Colonel nine-yard line. A fourth-down stop ended the opportunity. A final Colonel touchdown in the opening moments of the fourth quarter would be the last score on the day.
